Paris Eiffel Tower vintage look card
Sunday, January 10, 2016
I picked up this new Sizzix Framelits die/stamp set, French Flight, at a booth at Les Automnales, Geneva's annual autumn fair in November. I was so excited to see a booth selling scrapbooking supplies I felt it my duty – a sign of crafting solidarity if you will – to buy something. Yes, Madame Digital Devotee actually inked up traditional rubber stamps for this project (GASP!). It's been so long I'm surprised I remembered how.
This is a thank you card (the sentiment's inside) that was sent to my brother and his family back in the States. I went all out in embellishing it, yet the embellishments are relatively flat and lightweight, so it didn't cost a small fortune to mail. The paper is a mix of vintage – a 1951 Paris transit guide and stamp book – and new chamois paper (see Crafty Tip below).
I was very pleased with this set. The stamps and dies work beautifully together and I'm sure this is one of the rare rubber stamp sets I'll be inking up again soon.
*Crafty Tip* Blank vintage paper can be hard to find and when you do, working with it can be tricky. Some vintage papers are more porous, making a cleanly stamped image difficult to achieve. Edges can be crumbly, making it worrisome to run through your printer. If you want the look of vintage paper without actually using vintage paper choose a chamois paper to work with. All of the stamped images on this card – the Eiffel Tower, the butterflies, the fleur de lys, the Paris sign – were stamped on new chamois paper that blends so perfectly with the vintage papers you can't really tell which is which. You can see another example of where I've used chamois paper for a vintage look on this male golfer card.
