Version Scrap Lyon, 8 - 10 February 2013

Yesterday I got up early and took the train to Lyon to attend Version Scrap. I think this is the French equivalent to CHA—at a teeny, tiny fraction of the size—there were around 30 vendors I believe. This is only the second year they've had it in Lyon. In the past it was just in Paris. Paris is three hours by train and Lyon only two, so although it made for a long day, Lyon was doable. It's in Paris in April.

There was a lot on offer I never see in stores around here.

As I've written about before there really aren't any stores in my area that specialize in scrapbooking materials. My choices aren't what you'd call limited—they're nil. It was nice to see in person what I can only ever order on the internet.

I have a confession to make, I've never taken any kind of paper crafting class. Even if I wanted to, there aren't any offered with any regularity around me. Everything I've learned I've learned through the internet, books, and the I wonder school of thought (you know I wonder what would happen if I did this, mixed that, etc.). So I signed up for and took my first class yesterday with Debby Schuh. I thought it would be nice to have a class with an American.

I enjoyed the class but I have to admit it was confusing. There was a French interpreter interpreting for the students (I was the only Anglophone) and my mind was getting confused, it didn't know if it should be thinking in English or French. Then measurements were given in both inches and centimeters, and I was getting messed up there too. In French an inch is a pouce. But, oh well, in the end I did get a nice little album made and it was a learning experience indeed. Oh, and I snagged some nice papers and dies I just had to buy.

  2. What an exciting day for you! I went to StampFest in Clearwater yesterday. A small event too--28 vendors. But a shorter distance--50 minutes by car.
