There's a new challenge "kid" on the block—the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog! The ever talented Gloria Stengel has come up with yet another creative adventure sure to inspire you. The very first challenge is going on right now and will last 'til Sunday, February 16, so there's still lots of time to play along. There's a wonderful prize up for grabs, too! I encourage you to hop over and check it out.
The theme for this first challenge is to showcase your own signature style. I like to do lots of different things, but I think if there is one style that is really me that would be retro/vintage (I am a big fan and have quite the ephemera collection).
This card is an example of that. I have used an original image (not a copy) cut from a 1950 home decorating magazine (yes, this bit of paper is 64 years old!) . This was an ad for a hot water heater. The neon yellow background caught my eye. It just so happened I had the exact paper to go with it; a cardstock I'd never used (not much demand for neon yellow), but hadn't given away because I just knew one of these days I'd find a use for it and voila...the day has come (sometimes it pays to hoard, now doesn't it?!).
In the ad the woman is stepping out of the shower (in full makeup, nonetheless) with a towel around her shoulders. You can see the little white water drops on her face. I decided she was getting ready to celebrate someone's birthday. I did the sentiment "Are you ready yet?" with Craft Artist II Professional software and printed it on the image (how-tos in this post here). I linked the inside sentiment with the front; it says "It's your birthday, time to celebrate!". I used to finish the inside of my cards more, but I've backed off from that. It didn't give me much room to enclose a personal note at the bottom, something I always do.
I've used this week's Seize the Sketch #13 in creating this card.
Material
Paper—cardstock
Topper image—April 1950 American Home magazine from my collection
Die—Die-namics circles
Embellishments—buttons, twine

Oh, yes, I'm a firm believer in hoarding! LOL Just recently, I've used bits and pieces that I've held on to for so long, and they came in great handy.
