I'm playing along with three challenges with this card: Cardz 4 Guyz #7, City Crafter Challenge Week 200 and Sketch Saturday #299. The theme at Cardz 4 Guyz is "Music". Note the vintage sheet music on this card. I like using this as a neutral background; it goes with anything. At City Crafter the challenge is '...another language other than English'. As I've made this card for my French father in-law (who doesn't speak English), I almost feel like I'm cheating on this one. I've used the sketch at Sketch Saturday as my design.
This vintage mustached gentleman is part of an old mustache wax ad. It comes from Dover's 2000 Early Advertising Cuts. I scanned it, printed it and colored it with pencils. The button is also vintage.
I've used Goudy Handtooled BT font on both the outside and inside sentiments. In English this translates to "Let's see!" (outside) and "What is today? Why, it's your birthday...Happy Birthday, Papa!" (inside). Just in case you're thinking I've goofed with the extra space before the question mark and exclamation points, in French you have a space before these two types of punctuation.
