A Bûche – France's Favorite Christmas Dessert & Card Celebrating It

France's favorite Christmas dessert is a  bûche de Noël.  Bûche means log, and represents the traditional yule log that was burned to mark the winter solstice. Bûche come in all types, traditional ones that look very much like a decorated log and stylized ones that are such works of art you can hardly bear to eat them. A traditional bûche is a flat cake with frosting, rolled into a cylinder, frosted again, and decorated as shown. There are also frozen ice cream types (my preference).
