LRW #713 – Christmas or New Year

Girlfriend Imke is hosting our challenge at Little Red Wagon this week and she's chosen the theme 'Christmas or New Year?'. Click on over to see what the other girlfriends have come up with and link up your own festive paper creations.

This card could be either/or and would work for both holidays. Meilleurs voeux literally means 'best wishes' in French, but it's closer to 'Happy Holidays' in meaning and is the most common greeting on the front of a French holiday card. Most French don't send out Christmas cards per say and don't really worry about a card arriving by Christmas day as long as it gets there by the 1st of January if  the sentiment inside is wishing someone joyeuses fêtes (literally Happy Holidays), or even by the end of January if it's skipping the Christmas bit altogether and expressing one's voeux pour la nouvelle année (best wishes for the new year).

I reused the circular sentiment I created for last year's Snowman's Friends card and framed Di's Digi Stamps Candy Cane Bear digi with it. I also added a line underneath the bear so it would look like she was sitting on something. The digital paper is from the long defunct Tactile Studio. I dressed it up with a few enamel dots.

  5. So very sweet - and coloured wonderfully, as always!

Thanks for the lesson in French culture! I've got a penpal in France and we've been writing for about 25 years now. I always send her a Christmas card and typically get a New Years card from her. Now I better understand the why!!
