Bastille Day Card Featuring Vera Lane Studio Bastille Day Digi

Bonne Fête Nationale à tous ! Célébrons la liberté, l'égalité et la fraternité !

We don't normally send Bastille Day cards in France the way you would a USA 4th of July card. If I were to send this to a French friend I'm sure they'd like it, but would scratch their heads and wonder why I did. Not that I have to worry about that, it went to my American Francophile Seattle Cousin. I covered both my 4th of July and 14th July bases with a sentiment inside the card. The Bastille Day Marianne digi (the embodiement of the French Republic) and sentiment are from Vera Lane Studio. I've noted a few Vera Lane Studio digis with French Sentiments; I wonder if Ms. Klein, the artist behind Vera Lane, is a Francophile? In any case, they're much appreciated. We don't have many French digital stamp artists here. In fact, I don't know of any. Mais si tu en connais, dis-le moi !

I don't make 4th of July cards much anymore. I used to (e.g.this rocket riding QKR Stampede Beagle), but as I don't live in the USA it sneaks up on me and I find my 4th of July cards inadvertently become 30th of July cards. To counteract this, I've started making Happy Summer cards instead with a '...hope you have/had a Happy 4th' sentiment inside to cover both card arrival contingencies. This Beary Happy Summer card example is one of my all time card favorites.

Just an aside here, but isn't it funny how a card can come together sometimes and it just seems so right? The aforementioned Beary Happy Summer card is one of those. I enjoy looking at it even now.  Know what I mean? I think that unexpected spark is one of the joys of creating.

  7. Wonderful card, Shani! Loving those papers. I totally know what you mean about making a card that just goes right right from the get-go. One of the reasons I love being on a DT is that it makes me make cards I wouldn't necessarily make....and when one of those turns out, *chef's kiss*.

  10. If I had seen this post sooner, I might have recognized the Olympic mascot. Last night I learned about the Phrygian cap and its importance in France. Not only is your card darling, it re-enforced my learning.
